South African karters competing in the Max World Grand Final

South African competitors taking part in the 2015 Max Championship Grand Finals. You’ll find links to live-streaming videos and event results.

National Production Car racer Michael Stephen is amongst the South African competitors currently competing in the World Max Finals in Portugal.

Currently ten South African karters find themselves in Portimão in Western Algarve, Portugal competing in the 2015 Rotax Max Championship Grand Finals. The event started on November 8 and runs until November 14.

In total there are 221 karters from around the world competing in the four classes, DD2, DD2 Masters, Max Junior and Max Senior and South Africa is represented in each of these categories.

The DD2 class has attracted 75 entries and here Bradley Liebenberg (312), Eugene Britz (352) and Chad Maciver (338) are flying the flag for SA. In the DD2 Masters category – with 72 competitors – it is Ronaldo Baptista (423), John van Wyk (437) and Michael Stephen (462) that are the local racers in competition.

Max Junior features Dino Stermin (122) and Delano Fowler (152) amongst the 72 racers while Max Senior sees Jonathan Aberdein (250) and Jordan Sherratt (261) representing SA.

Motorsport fans who would like to follow the action, can do so online. The event is livestreamed and the results are posted regularly as well.

As at the time of writing, the qualifying heats are currently taking place.

Competitors will be jostling for their world standings right up until the final flag drops on Saturday.

Competitors of the Victory Raceway club will do some oval track racing (that’s stock cars for the old-school readers) at their track on Saturday, 6 September.
