It seems Port Elizabeth’s petrol-fuelled fraternity is loathe to spend a weekend at home. What lies ahead, while the rest of the world turns their attention to the IronMan on the city’s beachfront is an opportunity to see both oval track and circuit racing – which should keep race fans happy until late into Saturday night.

To start, the Aldo Scribante Raceway will host another regional race event. Here you can catch the racing from 11:30 with each of the categories contesting three races. Speaking of categories, the club will host six classes of competition, divided amongst the Marque, Street and Fine Cars, Eastern Province Open Top Sports Cars, Regional Motorcycles, Historic and Classic Saloons, Historic and Clubmans Motorcycles and Eastern Province Regional Saloons.

Racing gets underway at 11:30, but there will be activity at the track from 08:00 with warm-up and qualifying sessions. The final race of the day starts at 17:40. R50 per car gets you in – number of passengers is immaterial – and you can get in touch with Sparky at +27823400396 for more info.

When you’re done at Scribante, dash on over to Victory Raceway on the Schoenies road (Victoria Drive) to catch up on some oval track racing – that’s good old stock cars if you’re not up to date on the latest motorsport terminology. The club held a very successful national event there recently (22 March) and follow it up this week with a regional event.

Here you can expect to see the Junior Hot Rods, 1660s, 2.1 Modifieds, Hot Rods, Super Sixes and American Saloons in a mad dash around the track for points. Racing starts at 18:00 and entry is R50 for adults and R20 to park your vehicle around the track. Gates will be open from 15:00. Get more info from Twané at +27845820283.
